Majorca
Majorca, formerly known as "Island of Calm", the largest one in the Balearic Islands (Mediterranean Sea) and located very close to the Spanish cities of Barcelona and Valencia, offers multiple flights and frequent air communications (International Airport Son Sant Joan) with the Peninsula and the main European capitals (Paris, London, Rome, Milan, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Manchester, Dublin, etc..), and also frequent sea communications (Port of Alcudia and Port of Palma de Mallorca), one the largest port of the Mediterranean Sea.
Ideally situated within the Mediterranean Sea, the island have extensive virgin sandy beaches and incredible crystal clear waters, inviting the visitors for diving and relaxing in any of them, thanks to the wide variety of beaches and coves along the coast of Majorca (555 km ). Among them, some places to be visited are the idyllic beaches of Santa Ponsa, Palma Nova and Magalluf, Port Adriano, Playa de Palma, El Arenal, Puerto Alcudia and its 4-kilometres long beach.
In a nutshell, the "other" Majorca is waiting to be discovered: "an island full of light and colour, a pearl delighted filled with splendor" (anthem of Majorcan Juan Alcover).
In addition to the literature and epic poetry of recognized writers as Juan Alcover or Santiago Rusinyol, the island of Majorca offers a multitude of tiny and virgin coves, waiting to be discovered, as well as picturesque fishing ports along the sunny coast; dazzling mountains with steep cliffs, which are falling almost vertically into the sea( with its turquoise colours), standing out among all the peak of Puig Major (1.445m high); a diversified marine and terrestrial wildlife, especially a wide variety of birds, and not forgetting the big crowd and representativeness of the ancient cultural "possessions", some abandoned, others restored or converted into Rural-hotels living even nowadays with the traditional crops and Mallorcan fields, who still persist in the interior of the island adorning the land views with their flourishing almond trees, olive groves and holm oak, silent witnesses to the passage of other cultures around the island in ancient times.
Alongside this, and caressed by a perfect Mediterranean climate, Majorca offers a multitude of attractive reasons to be visited: from the ruins of Talayotic villages (testimonies of Prehistory Mallorca), Roman amphitheaters, Arab baths, shrines, forts and isolated monasteries on the top of the mountains, and finally to the finest and Gothic architectural style of Christianism in Spain, represented in the Palma Cathedral, called La Seu.
